What’s your favorite part of your job?

For me, to be an attorney is to solve problems. Solving problems takes focused work and creative solutions. The challenge and excitement that comes with the profession keeps me focused, fulfilled, and committed. This aspect of practice is accentuated by the rewarding feeling of working with a team of professionals. There is no better way to work through creative processes than getting together with trusted colleagues and mentors and sharing ideas.

What advice would you give someone interested in the legal profession?

Explore. Don’t be afraid to try new things. The best part of the legal profession is that the roads are endless and plenty. It is common to feel stuck in an area just because you’ve experienced it. Particularly during law school, you’ll get tastes of understanding in the different areas of law you may encounter. Each unique experience brings something new to the table, and that will always serve to bolster your continuous growth as an attorney. There is no such thing as time wasted so long as you’re engaging in the opportunities presented and are willing to keep learning.

What hobby or activity do you wish you had more time for?

Cooking. I love learning and experimenting with different cooking techniques, but the daily rush to simply get something on the table precludes a lot of thoughtful creation. I like to try my hand at something new on a quiet weekend, but the amount of time, and trial and error it takes to master a dish is hard to find. I like the idea that cooking is an art, and baking is a science. I don’t typically follow recipes; instead I try to learn basic principles and foster an understanding of technique. That type of care and attention takes more time than I have.
